Questions

Does my document leave my device?

No. The text is extracted and summarized on your device by the AI model built into Chrome. Once the model is downloaded, the tool works offline.

Is it really free? Which browsers work?

Yes, there is no account, key or charge. It needs desktop Google Chrome 138 or later on a computer with enough memory and disk space for Chrome's AI model; the page tells you if yours can't run it.

Can it summarize very long documents?

Yes, within reason. The on-device model reads a few pages at a time, so long documents are summarized in parts and then combined. Very long documents are refused rather than cut off; split them with Split PDF first.

Does it work on scanned PDFs?

No. Scans have no text layer, and OCR isn't supported.

Are my files uploaded anywhere?

No. The tool runs as code in your browser tab and processes the file on your own device. Nothing is sent to a server, and the site's security policy blocks the page from sending data to any other website. You can check: open your browser's developer tools, watch the Network tab while the tool runs, and you'll see no upload.
