Questions
What is a HEIC file?
The photo format iPhones use by default. It saves space, but Windows, many websites and older apps can't open it. JPG works everywhere.
Are my photos uploaded?
No. HEIC decoding runs in your browser with libheif, the same open-source library many photo apps use. The decoder downloads once (about 2 MB) the first time you use the tool.
Is the photo's location data kept?
No. The converted image contains only the picture, without EXIF data such as GPS location or camera details.
Are my files uploaded anywhere?
No. The tool runs as code in your browser tab and processes the file on your own device. Nothing is sent to a server, and the site's security policy blocks the page from sending data to any other website. You can check: open your browser's developer tools, watch the Network tab while the tool runs, and you'll see no upload.
