How much smaller will my PDF get?
It depends on what's inside. PDFs full of photos or scans often shrink by 50-90% on Balanced. Text-only PDFs are usually small already and shrink little; if nothing helps, the tool keeps your original rather than give you a bigger file.
Will my text still be selectable?
Yes, for Lossless, Balanced and Strong: only images are re-encoded. Smallest turns each page into a picture, so text can no longer be selected or searched.
How do I get a PDF under 1 MB for a form upload?
Try Balanced, then Strong. If it's still too big, Smallest almost always gets there, at the cost of selectable text. For scanned documents, Smallest is usually fine.
Are my files uploaded anywhere?
No. The tool runs as code in your browser tab and processes the file on your own device. Nothing is sent to a server, and the site's security policy blocks the page from sending data to any other website. You can check: open your browser's developer tools, watch the Network tab while the tool runs, and you'll see no upload.
